After upgrading my Galaxy S4 to the Samsung-flavored Lollipop, the UI seems a lot slower and battery seems to be draining faster. Should I shift to a CFW? Will I be able to retain all my apps/data?

Probably give it a few hours, or even a few days, for the new OS to finish its indexing and caching.
