Whenever there’s a mass shooting in the US, there’s a call for more gun control, and then gun fanatics buy up high-powered arms in anticipation of more controls, which increases the likelihood of more mass shootings. It’s a positive feedback loop!

I’m curious as to whether the actual statistics bear this theory out. I’m also curious as to where the US’ breaking point will be before they decide they’ve had enough of this loop.

It's enough evidence to conspire that gun companies sponsor the shooting :D
Switzerland has some of the most pro-gun laws in the world. Adult males are required by law to keep an assault rifle, which they carry openly in public. And yet they have some of the lowest incidence rates of gun violence anywhere. Oppose that to, let's say here, at home. It's tough to get licensed here. But nobody would dare say we have low gun violence here, where criminals don't use licensed firearms.

Mmm, it's hard to compare. I read this article about Swiss gun control: https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2018/02/swiss-guns/553448/
Main takeaways:

  • Swiss ownership rates substantially lower than US
  • Swiss gun-related deaths highest in Europe (but still substantially lower than US)
  • Swiss background checks for gun owners are mandated
As for us, well we both know "regulations" around here are treated more like suggestions than rules
But also, most gun violence here do not involve licensed firearms.
And the gun-related deaths in Switzerland are usually suicides, not homicied. Very rare din ang mass shooting.
