I like the idea of “optimizing for sustenance” but I fear that it might not always be possible to get stories down to 1-2 days that way (especially for difficult technical issues)

@roytang cool. what proportion of the work your team does now is impossible to split into stories of that size that add value? do you think that proportion is higher or lower or the same as in the trade?
@GeePawHill Definitely doesnt happen often. But one of our current projects is just starting out and involves a lot of learning & technical risk. We opted to do the more difficult stuff first to manage the risks but it means our first couple of stories could take 1-2 wks

@roytang i hope you see why i’ll stand my ground? the proportion of such stories is very small, and i’ll tell you that in 20 years i’ve heard “it can’t be done” a whole lot of times when it could be done rather straightforwardly.

anyway, if what your team is doing is working, do that.

@GeePawHill of course. sorry if it seemed like i was disagreeing, I found the thread overall insightful and informative, just difficult to apply in my particular context atm
