VENOM spoiler-free review:
- I wasn’t sure if I would watch this, given the poor critical response, but it’s an ok movie overall, fun to watch but nothing to write home about (though I wouldnt spend extra for Imax). I would say comparable with Thor: Dark World or Iron Man 2
- the first 15 mins or so felt draggy, but after that things happen quickly
- overall plot slightly predictable, and not too long, very straightforward
- a tiny bit of humor thrown in, not enough to make it feel like an MCU movie
- not sure if there’s something with the sound editing or some of the actors weren’t delivering their lines properly, but I had trouble with understanding the lines in some scenes
- the Venom symbiote seems to have some extra powers here (as compared to the comics)
- Tom Hardy does a good job here, I feel like he was having fun during this movie
- There is a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene
- Would Mama like it? Hard no.

Locals will have a tendency to fawn over Westerners who come to the country, so at least at the start you might feel like you can do no wrong.
Locals are also a lot less… direct than Westerners and if there are problems they may dance about the issues a bit for fear of looking bad. You might need to be less direct with any criticism than you’re used to with Westerners. And some might have difficulty talking to you if they aren’t confident in their English (most Filipinos will be able to speak/understand English to some extent, but not everyone will have decent grammar etc)
And there’s a strong sense of power distance in the company, so they might be a bit afraid of you especially if you are perceived as being “higher in the food chain”.
Going out with them for meals and maybe treating them every once in a while (don’t let them get used to it) would be good ways to become accepted as part of the group. But that power distance may be difficult to breach.
All of these are generalizations of course, not all locals are like the above (I consider myself an exception - I’m quite direct even when talking to foreigners), so YMMV.

A while back KFC had this weird cheesy spicy chicken (basically spicy chicken covered in a cheese sauce), I really liked it for some reason.

The world is literally in danger if we don’t do anything. (Although given how the past few years have gone, I’m not 100% that’s a bad thing) https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/07/climate/ipcc-climate-report-2040.html?partner=rss&emc=rss&smtyp=cur&smid=tw-nytimes

There’s this video my brother shared to our family chat group, where my one and a half year old nephew is sitting on a chair and animatedly telling a story, complete with facial expressions and hand motions and pointing around and everything, except everything he says is gibberish because he doesn’t really know how to talk yet. I’ve watched it for the fourth time just now and it still makes me giggle.
