IDK if it’s a sign of the times or what, but it feels kind of silly to have accounts for multiple Secret Santa sites

@tjdimacali @josh4everyoung AFAIK in the US it is not illegal (https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB124334529081854421). It is different for the Philippines?

Posted on r/Philippines: Many times it’s a struggle between (a) trying to reach out to and understand people who hold different views; and (b) holding back because you don’t feel like you can have a productive conversation with such people, especially online. How can we breach the divide?
Edit: By “breach the divide”, I don’t really mean persuading others that you are correct, more like trying to find common ground and to learn from each other. At the very least we should be able to agree on certain things like the need to verify information and not simply believe everything we read on the internet or to be respectful to others that hold different opinions, but it seems many people aren’t even open to that. It’s just frustrating sometimes.

I rarely do the passive-aggressive status updates, but I’m just so pissed off. If you don’t believe in what people are fighting for today, fine, whatever, you have a right to remain ignorant. But maybe consider just shutting up instead of insinuating people are being paid off when you don’t know anything. Mahiya ka naman sa mga tao who would be willing to fight for your rights even when you’re one of those people who doesn’t give a damn. To all my friends who are going to the rallies today, take care and stay safe and keep fighting. I am with you in spirit.

Kelangan talaga ng self-control sometimes to avoid commenting when people you know post stupid things on social media

So pissed off. Someone on my feeds posted “I bet konti lang magra-rally kung di binayaran ng P500 yang mga yan. hehe” /glare

It amuses me no end to have the Voltes V theme song be played at the anti-Marcos rallies today, but I couldn’t help but sing along with the following lyrics:
voltes v lima sila
bumili ng pop cola
dumating si mazinger z
kasama nya si bumblebee
sabay utot, sabay tae
kontra bulate!

I wonder if this is how it was in the last days of the dictatorship: the indifferent and the apathetic sitting in their homes, keeping their heads down, while the very same people they were annoyed at for causing trouble and making noise were out on the streets fighting for everyone’s rights, whether apathetic or not. Time flows like a river, and history repeats…
