Someone on quora asked:
Does hard work really lead to success even after so many rejections?
There are rarely any guarantees in life. Heck, there isnβt even a guarantee that youβll wake up tomorrow morning. That being said, hard work is more likely to lead to success than not working hard, but still no guarantees
You feel frustrated because your chosen path is not working out, thatβs a very common thing. But what if success for you is not what you expected, or you need to get there through a different route than you imagined? Working smart is much more valuable than working hard. And working smart means being willing to think outside the box and explore different options to achieve your goals. Instead of trying the same things or the same approaches again and again which are not bearing fruit, see if there are other alternatives for you. Maybe your classmates can give you some advice, or maybe your school offers some sort of counseling service to help you with your career goals
-
Someone on quora asked:
Do you ever feel like you put on a mask when going out and socializing?
Thereβs a saying (I first encountered a version of it in the novel Shogun): βThe Japanese say you have three faces. The first face, you show to the world. The second face, you show to your close friends, and your family. The third face, you never show anyone. It is the truest reflection of who you are.β
Itβs a simplification, and it doesnβt apply only to the Japanese. People choose how to present themselves to different audiences. This is because no matter how self-confident we are, on some level we still crave other peopleβs approval, so we tailor how we present ourselves depending on what we perceive the audience we face will approve of.

Even if the people in charge were all saints and the opposition were all madmen, any trend towards authoriarianism is a bad idea because saints can become sinners in a heartbeat and when they do, you will wish there was still opposition
-
Despite the so-called “media bias”, the president still enjoys a high approval rating, meaning either (a) the public doesn’t care what the media says and believes the president in spite of everything (in which case why complain about the media?); or (b) the public believes the “big media spin” and approves of it anyway. I’ll leave it as an exercise as to which possibility is worse

Posted on r/Philippines: From the local version of “A Few Good Men”
D: “You want answers?”
“I think I’m entitled to them”
D: “You want answers?”
“I want the truth!”
D: “You can’t handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has drugs, and those drugs have to be defeated by men with guns. Who’s gonna do it? You? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for the collateral damage and you curse the police. You have that luxury, you have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That the collateral deaths, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and impenetrable to you, saves lives. You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like slaughter, obosen, killings. We use them as a backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very safety that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and kill some druggies. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you are entitled to.”
“Did you order the extrajudicial killings?”
D: “I did the job I –”
“DID YOU ORDER THE EXTRAJUDICIAL KILLINGS?”
D: “YOU’RE GODDAMN RIGHT I DID”
(Sana may mag act out, with corresponding accent lol)

I don’t really have many “fanatics” who follow me. Maybe someone should make an image version of the monologue part, with the president in the image (implying he said it) and post it to one of the pro-Duterte groups. You know, the ones that believe he’s been named the best president in the solar system lol
