  • I was probably around 80% asleep already when there came an incessant knocking upon my chamber door. I got up and opened the door and there was a little girl just outside the door who promptly demanded that I turn on the lights because she couldn’t see anything. As soon as I did so she handed me a Batman toy without explanation and skipped merrily back to the room from whence she came with not a care in the world. …now I can’t sleep =/

  • “You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you’re hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!” - Rocky Balboa

  • So I just caught up with Arrow. Great show, especially for comic fans, but something bothers me. (Arrow spoilers follow) … … … So Sarah Lance is alive and is Black Canary. And her father Police Officer (formerly detective) Lance knows that she and Oliver are dating. And he also knows that Sarah is Black Canary. And he knows that Arrow and Black Canary are working together. Yet he can’t put two and two together! This is why he shouldn’t be a detective lol

  • So I marathoned Gurren Lagann this weekend. That was totally not what I expectd lol. It was fun and way over the top, even though it still hit a lot of the tropes. I thought it was going to get boring after the timeskip, but nope. It got a little weird at the end, but I guess that’s inevitable when things escalate quickly

  • It is 10 days before a feast. There are 1,000 barrels of wine for the feast. One of the barrels is poisoned and whoever drinks from it will die after 7 days. You only have ten wine-tasters. How do you determine which barrel is poisoned before the feast begins?

  • It’s actually kind of amazing that despite all the modern technology and air safety stuff, nobody still has any real idea what happened to the Malaysian Airlines flight after more than a week. I wonder if we’ll ever know what happened or if it’s going to turn out to be something like Amelia Earhart’s disappearance where people will still be speculating about it decades from now

  • Shogun was the first novel I ever read outside of required school readings and it remains one of favorites to this day after many rereadings. It had it all - the age of exploration, religious conflict, languagr barriers, duty, honor, love, betrayal, war, sacrifice, samurai, ninjas, guns, cannons, etc and it still influences my thinking to this day

  • I wonder if hundreds of years from now, historians will look back at our age and wonder how we could let totalitarian regimes like North Korea to exist, or allow governments like Venezuela to oppress their people when they dissent, or allow civil wars to rage in countries like Syria with six-digit death tolls, and would they consider us savages

  • If you said ten years ago that characters like the Falcon or Rocket Raccoon would be playing major roles in big budget movies, you’d have been laughed out of the comic book store. Dc needs to step up!

  • It is said an Eastern monarch once charged his wise men to invent him a sentence, to be ever in view, and which should be true and appropriate in all times and situations. They presented him the words: “And this, too, shall pass away.”

  • There’s a place at the corner of East Avenue and BIR Road in Quezon City. When I was young I would walk to that intersection and wait there to catch a jeepney ride that would take me home. It was often easy to get a ride, no more than a couple of minutes wait. But sometimes I wouldn’t flag down a jeep immediately. I would sit there at the base of the lamp post at the corner of East Avenue and BIR Road, and let the noise of the world wash over me for some time. I don’t remember contemplating anything specific while I was there or whether I had worries or was sad. I would just sit there and be peaceful and the world would move around me and I would watch the people and the cars pass by and wonder who they were or where they were going. After a while the trance would break, and I would fall back into the real world and tell myself I had to get home.

  • “I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

  • Re: Globe, For the record, I personally don’t mind having the 1GB/3GB limits, my mobile usage isn’t that much and I have wired internet at home. (Although I wouldn’t mind higher limits - there are apps that are larger than 1GB!) But the problem is that the plans are being marketed as “UNLIMITED” (and when confronted with this, they’ll try to weasel out with technicalities like “it’s still unlimited after the cap, just 2G”) and they treat the “3%” who make the most of the UNLIMITED plan as “abusers” who are not “fair”. In my opinion, if their network can’t handle the congestion, they shouldn’t sell these plans as “UNLIMITED”.

  • For some reason lately, the first time I launch Chrome after logging in, the Tweetdeck tab starts eating up huge amounts of memory - it’s usually up to 2GB before I notice (though now I just kill it before it reaches 1GB). Anyone else encountering this?

  • You know how when you’re watching a movie and the character is about to do something stupid and all you can do is sit there and watch him go through it all? I hate that

  • Why do we have that thing where they tape over the firearms of cops/soldiers/security guards? Those are registered weapons, don’t we have something like ballistic matching to trace if the bullet that hit a victim of indiscriminate firing was a registered weapon?

  • While I was out on a walk I passed by some teenagers in pambahay clothes sitting near a curb and they were talking about incorrect grammar. I like to imagine that as I left they started discussing their favorite books
