  • I also finished Persona 3 Portable today (been playing it on and off since Feb 2015). I figured I should clear it off my backlog before P5 next year. Didnt manage a completionist run though

  • β€œAnyway, George comes up to me the first day of filming and he takes one look at the dress and says, ‘You can’t wear a bra under that dress.’ So, I say, ‘Okay, I’ll bite. Why?’ And he says, ‘Because… there’s no underwear in space.’ I promise you this is true, and he says it with such conviction too! Like he had been to space and looked around and he didn’t see any bras or panties or briefs anywhere. Now, George came to my show when it was in Berkeley. He came backstage and explained why you can’t wear your brassiere in other galaxies, and I have a sense you will be going to outer space very soon, so here’s why you cannot wear your brassiere, per George. So, what happens is you go to space and you become weightless. So far so good, right? But then your body expands??? But your bra doesn’t- so you get strangled by your own bra. Now I think that this would make a fantastic obit- so I tell my younger friends that no matter how I go, I want it reported that I drowned in moonlight, strangled by my own bra.”

  • Finished watching Westworld. It’s pretty good. Once you get introduced to the premise of the show, it’s easy to imagine where it goes from there - these types of stories tend to go in that particular direction. Where the show shines is the narrative, the way the events unfold, everything is very well done. Some things from the earlier episodes are quite vague, unclear or sometimes downright contradictory, but things clear up pretty well near the end of the 10-episode run, though a number of things are still left hanging (including the fates of the surviving characters) for the presumptive season two to help clear up. Not for kids. Lots of violence and nudity and whatnot. Also, there’s a post-credits scene.

  • International media making a fuss about our president? Must be a conspiracy theory to condition people to oust him, it can’t possibly be all the stupid and inane and outright sociopathic things he keeps saying. James Taylor boycotts our country due to concerns on killings? Must be due to poor ticket sales, it can’t possibly be because sometimes people act on principle. People raising an outcry due to killings and human rights concern? Must be due to partisan politics. After all, when you use politics to promote an environment of death and killing, everyone who is against killing can be considered partisan! PH govt abstaining on UN vote help for Aleppo? Well of course, the UN shouldn’t be interfering with member states, since they’re our employees, right? #logic Lol, dami lang naipon na nakakainis na things. Hopefully our president shuts up til after Christmas (or maybe even forever! One can hope.) To all those who I disagree with on politics: good morning and happy holidays! May we be ever woke and maybe sometimes find some common ground even.

  • So on r/worldnews on reddit, they have some sidebar buttons to filter out particular topics that tend to dominate the news. Guess what they added recently! #PinoyPride

Also, I should totally post on reddit the next time our Dear Leader says something stupid. At least instead of simply being annoyed at him, I also get to reap some reddit karma.

  • Finished Black Mirror this week. It is indeed a heavy show, but I find that it becomes a lot easier to watch (and binge) if you try not to get attached to the characters and just accept that horrible things will happen to them lol

  • Just watched the Kingsglaive Blu-Ray. That exceeded my expectations, and I kinda wanna start playing the game now. (I should probably wrap up Xenoblade Chronicles X first)

  • Is it just me, or does anyone remember a parody version of “we three kings” that has the lyrics “tried to light a dynamite”?

  • ROGUE ONE Spoiler-free review:

    • it’s great. As a Star Wars fan, I was very happy with the movie!
    • K-2SO best droid ever
    • a lot of great shots that really show the scale of things: star destroyers, the death star, etc
    • a fun, great movie to watch, with the tension rising almost throughout the entire movie.
    • You already know how it ends, but the tension is so well-done that you’re worried that history might change!
    • IMAX? The big screen was a plus, but the 3d wasn’t much. IMAX optional.
    • Magugustuhan ba ni Mama? Probably not, madaming itatanong.
    • Mid/post credits scene: None.
    • R1 > TFA (!)

(I edited in a bunch more details after the original post)

  • I wonder if there’s any sort of plan to manage/mitigate the traffic around the trinoma/sm north area. It’s already pretty bad, but with the upcoming common station, new mrt line to bulacan, and vertis north development it might just become as bad as ortigas/makati

  • Anyone tried recontracting with Globe over the phone? I recontracted on the same plan to get a new phone. They said they’d email me a recontracting form but it never arrived. And apparently if I’m not at home to receive the new phone personally I need to fill up and sign the form ahead of time.

  • I admit I was a bit worried about “qualified piracy” being #2 on that list of death penalty crimes going around. Then I found out it was about attacking ships on the high-seas and sighed in relief. I get to finish Game of Thrones!

  • I wonder if our society would have more respect/awareness for legal processes if we had more locally-produced legal dramas or police procedurals. Or kahit itagalize na lang nila yung The Practice and Criminal Minds lol. Edit: In addition to respect, I think we also need more awareness. Like, people who get tokhang’ed should know they have a right to an attorney before signing any sort of waiver. They should know that the police can’t just pick them up and drag them to the station for no reason. They should know that they don’t have to let them into their homes if walang search warrant. Etc.

  • Sometimes it still amazes me how in a modern age with unprecedented access to knowledge and information, there are still people who believe the earth is flat. Then I remember that people share fake news and only read headlines without reading the article, and I’m like “Ah, right.”

  • Lawyer friends, is this true? Hindi ba merong something like grave threat? Or hindi applicable for some reason like immunity from suit or some executive privilege?

  • Okay, let’s review:

    1. Duterte reinstates cops suspended for involvement in illegal drugs. Supposedly he wants to keep them in place to be able to investigate and track their movements. He confirms that Marcos is involved in illegal shit.
    2. These cops go on to kill inmates in custody, while they are in their position where they could supposedly be investigated and tracked.
    3. Senators say it looks like an extra judicial killing
    4. NBI says it’s a rubout
    5. Duterte still supports the cops (who he already admitted were involved in illegal shit) and won’t allow them to go to prison

My creative imagination is failing me, can someone tell me how this isn’t coddling of murderers?

  • I rarely do the passive-aggressive status updates, but I’m just so pissed off. If you don’t believe in what people are fighting for today, fine, whatever, you have a right to remain ignorant. But maybe consider just shutting up instead of insinuating people are being paid off when you don’t know anything. Mahiya ka naman sa mga tao who would be willing to fight for your rights even when you’re one of those people who doesn’t give a damn. To all my friends who are going to the rallies today, take care and stay safe and keep fighting. I am with you in spirit.

  • Dear friends who support the president, paki-explain naman yung context ng quote below (yung nasa ibaba) please.

Sa tingin ko, kung ibang abogado ang nagsabi nyan, ambilis nang dumating ng calls for disbarment

Edit: A friend below provides some context: “He was talking about the amount of proof needed to conduct an investigation which is probable cause Lang NOT proof beyond reasonable doubt.”

  • It amuses me no end to have the Voltes V theme song be played at the anti-Marcos rallies today, but I couldn’t help but sing along with the following lyrics:

    voltes v lima sila

    bumili ng pop cola

    dumating si mazinger z

    kasama nya si bumblebee

    sabay utot, sabay tae

    kontra bulate!

  • I wonder if this is how it was in the last days of the dictatorship: the indifferent and the apathetic sitting in their homes, keeping their heads down, while the very same people they were annoyed at for causing trouble and making noise were out on the streets fighting for everyone’s rights, whether apathetic or not. Time flows like a river, and history repeats…
