If you were charged with writing the next Fantastic Four reboot and redeeming the franchise, what would the plot be?

I would write a Megamind/ Incredibles x-over that's playful and yet subversive in which Megamind becomes their Dr. Doom analogue, except people like him being in charge of Metrocity, and they engage in mock-battles for fun and training. Then an alien Beyonder/ Galactus type comes and misinterprets what's going on and tries to conquer earth for its own good. Oh, uh. FF4? Step 1: take it out of Fox's hands and put it in Marvel Studio's hands.
Step 2: Have Whedon do it.
Have them be the central characters to a Secret Invasion set of movies. It's Skrull-based so it's a bit their turf. The distrust scenario is best suited to a group well known for their trust with each other.
And also it will keep viewers guessing who's the enemy. People like that $hit.
Step 3: Collaborate with Brad Bird. He already made a successful Fantastic Four movie called The Incredibles. No reason not to let him keep writing it.
But if you have to go with the boring, outdated comic book versions, then I'd still do the basic principles used in the Incredibles: Keep the hero archetypes but give them personalities and characters that fit modern sensibilities. There's no reason to keep Reed as a high-functionin g sociopath career scientist, Sue as the Stepford trophy wife who can't help but fall in love with the working man, Ben as the lower class brute who gives way to the whims of his white collar master-best friend, and Johnny as the white male privileged dickhead who uses his looks, fame and disposable income to get what he wants.
Have them star in the next Avengers and kill off most of the Future Foundation. Oh, the comics did that already?
Not fuck Doom up. Seriously. That's burning water levels of bad right there.
