The problem isn’t the Hitler comparison per se. Leaders get compared to Hitler all the time. The problem was saying he’ll happily slaughter 3 million if they were drug addicts, as if being a drug addict justifies slaughter. Note that it’s drug addicts, not even pushers! (Offending the jews by comparing them to drug addicts was a secondary problem, as I don’t believe he intended that, despite how it seems; just his runaway mouth saying ridiculous things as normal)

Luke Cage spoiler-free review:
- this is an unapologetically very black show. It highlights black culture, black music, black history, and so on
- gang violence, sleazy politicians, corrupt cops
- most of the cast give great performances
- rosario dawson’s role seems to get bigger with each additional series
- lots of great easter eggs for comic book fans
- might have been an episode or two too long
- I did not like the ending too much, though I can see why they might have gone that way

Wait, so in spite of the crackdown and the violence, the drug prevalence is actually still increasing? This despite the PNP chief and the palace’s statements saying the drug war was succeeding?
(I still haven’t seen any independent confirmation of where the original 3.7M estimate came from though…)
Quoting the Philippine Star’s post:
President Duterte said that the number of drug addicts in the country is expected to soar from 3.7 million to four million by the end of the month.

Repost from Ninotchka Rosca:
Ingat (careful out there) became the word of good-bye, replacing the old “sige,” during the martial law years. It was the last word uttered between and among those meeting to discuss what had to be done, in ways big and small, to end the Marcos Dictatorship. It was said with all the love and respect one was capable of. Because chances were one would meet again only in a prison cell, or a torture house (called a safe house by the military) or at a wake. #neverforget #cultureaswitness #languageofstruggle

You know how a lot of Pinoys are so proud of Pacquiao whenever he wins a match - I don’t get that. I don’t relate to him just because we happened to be born on adjacent chunks of land. I had no hand in his upbringing or victories. He and I are around roughly the same age, but I doubt we had very similar experiences in life
It’s probably different in a country like the US where they have some notion of what it means to “be an American”. Here in the Philippines, I don’t think there is any such notion. I don’t know what it means to “be a Filipino”. We aren’t really that united in terms of culture and we don’t have a strong national identity that all of us can rally around.
Maybe in the end our own diversity can be good for us too, as it means we aren’t constrained or tied to a single point of view but are able to work with a veritable melting pot of different cultures and dialects and what-not. Maybe this is what it means to be a Filipino. Maybe this is what it means to be human

[Martial Law]
In 1969, Marcos instructed Executive Secretary Alejandro Melchor and Jose Almonte to study how Martial Law was implemented in different parts of the world. Marcos also wanted to know the consequences of declaring Martial Law. The result of their study stated that, “while Martial Law may accelerate development, in the end the Philippines would become a political archipelago, with debilitating, factionalized politics.” Almonte recalled that their findings led to the conclusion that “the nation would be destroyed because, apart from the divisiveness it would cause, Martial Law would offer Marcos absolute power which would corrupt absolutely.”

The attitude “That country should not instruct us on human rights because look at what they have done / are doing” is stupid. That’s like saying “why should I follow the rules when no one else does?” Or “it’s easier for me to go to mass instead of not being an asshole to other people”. This is exactly what is wrong with the entire country.
44 years ago on September 23, 1972, President Ferdinand Marcos declared Proclamation 1081, placing the Philippines under Martial Law. My father was the very first lawyer to challenge the act before the Supreme Court and questioned its legality under the 1935 Philippine Constitution.
Today, the 1987 Constitution safeguards our institutions from a repeat of Marcos’ Martial Law regime. The Supreme Court is empowered to review all official acts to determine if there has been grave abuse of discretion. Congress cannot be padlocked. Martial Law is limited in duration and effects, even if contemplated by a president. (Source: Section 18 of Article VII)
If you really love our country, regardless of political beliefs, invest in it. Give it your love, your forgiveness, your righteous and civil dissent. Obey it’s laws even if you feel stupid doing so because no one else will. Hold your head high when people tell you “masyado ka kasing honest”. Do good work, fall in love, live with honor. Be the best Filipino you can be. And above all, cherish the freedoms that were bought so dearly by so many. Do not abuse them. The Filipino is worth living for, and worth living here for. We are worth changing for, worth loving despite our many frailties. We are worth it all.
The many will someday stand bravely with the few, though we may have to re-learn our lessons because we always had aborted, personal, and unfinished revolutions.
We are impatient as a people and as a culture, perhaps we need an evolution - the slow quiet unsung work of true development - more than a revolution. Maybe that’s what change means.
Hope, prayer, vigilance, strength, and honor. This is our challenge and our overwhelming responsibility.

The following represents my opinion, based on my observations and personal research. I am open to feedback, critique, and correction from those so inclined. I welcome readers to do their own research and draw their own conclusions.
Manifesto: a written statement that describes the policies, goals, and opinions of a person or group
A Game Player’s Manifesto
I believe that in recent years, while looking for revenue models that work for electronic games, game designers and publishers have stumbled upon some formulae that work only because they abuse segments of their player population. Games can have addictive properties – and these abusive games are created – intentionally or not – to exploit players who are subject to certain addictive behavior.
One reason it has been possible for this to happen is that the resulting product is inexpensive, or free for most players, since most of the burden of cost has been put upon the players who become addicted to the game.
