  • 2020 Year in Review

It’s always weird for me when people do their “year in review” or “X of the year” any time before Jan 1st of the next year. You’re making Dec 31 feel left out. It’s one thing the Oscars get right. Anyway, here’s my personal year-in-review, such as it is. Essay-writing section It’s probably impossible to talk about 2020 without talking about the Covid19 pandemic that has ravaged the world. My country is sadly still under a state of quarantine/lockdown, I believe the world’s longest.

  • 2019 Year in Review

Well, it has certainly been another revolution around the sun. I added the tag yearnotes for these end-of-year recap and statistic things. 2019 Statistics: Work, Travel, Learning and Self Improvement: Hours worked: 180-200 hours (estimated) - down from 1163 hours last year I’ve been cutting back on my work commitments this year, preferring to spend more time on personal projects. Programming languages/frameworks learned: Only 1 really new thing, that’s the Ionic mobile app framework.

  • My 2018 in review

Happy new year! Last year I posted some year-end statistics. That seems like a good way to recap the year, so let’s do it again. Random statistics from 2018: Work, Learning and Self Improvement: Hours worked: 1,163 (up around 50% from last year) Programming languages/frameworks learned: I’ll say 4. I’m counting: C++ which I revisited this year after more than a decade of not using it Go, which I used for the templating in the Hugo blog Flask, which I had dabbled in before but only used in a full-scale project this year Laravel, which I also used in a couple of projects this year Books read: 4.

  • My 2017 in numbers

Happy new year! Last year I posted some year-end statistics. That seems like a good way to recap the year, so let’s do it again. Random statistics from 2017: 45 blog posts (including this one; total of 818 currently on this site according to wp-admin, though that number doesn’t add up to last year’s stats; down 34 posts from last year, an indicator of increased busyness) 0 words written for Nanowrimo (hopefully I can have another go next year) 59 sketches submitted to r/sketchdaily (a far cry from last year’s 321, yet another indicator of busyness) Duolingo streak: 0 days.

  • My 2016 in numbers

Random statistics from 2016: 74 blog posts (total of 769 currently on this site, some imported from as early as 2002. The record for a single year was 148 back in 2008, but that was back when I didn’t do social media much so even short posts made it to the blog, delicious bookmarks were auto-posted here, etc.) 50,135 words written for Nanowrimo 321 sketches submitted to r/sketchdaily Duolingo streak: 225 days Answers written on Quora: 427 Programming languages/frameworks learned: 4 Instagram posts: 390 Facebook activity: 218 statuses, 178 links, 164 photos, 31 videos.

Dec 2013

  • 2013 - Books and Games

It’s the end of the year, so it feels like a good time to look back at the books and games I’ve gone through in 2013. I guess it’s my lack of focus really but my reading rate has really gone down over the past few years, I guess in favor of TV, comics and games. (I guess comics count as reading too, but I’m talking about full-length novels. For 2013 as far as I can tell I only finished reading the following novels:

Dec 2011

  • 2011 in Review. Sort of. I guess.

Somehow the years seem to fly by more quickly nowadays. They all seem to blend in together too, at least in my memory. When I was thinking of what to write for this post I thought that this was the year I had taken my break from working. That was actually last year. I don’t think it’s a sign that I’m growing old. Maybe more of a sign of the fact that I’ve settled in to some sort of routine that makes it difficult to tell the days or even years apart.

  • 2004 -- Year of Many Things

“So, what’s your New Year’s resolution?"_ “I resolve to live life on purpose, to take control of my fate, to sieze each day as if it were my last. I will be reckless. I will be daring. I will be strong. I will challenge fate. I will defy the gods. Or I will die trying.” “… Why can’t you just quit smoking or go on a diet like ordinary people?

  • 2003 Year in Review

Roy’s 2003 Year in Review Best Thing About 2003: I got a job. It feels really good to actually have a decent amount of money coming in at a regular basis. :) Actually, I believe all good things in 2003 have stemmed from my having a job…more cash, new computer, better food, got to meet some nice people, able to buy more stuff, learned new skills, etc… Worst Thing About 2003:
