I’m trying out this “recent links” series where I highlight some stuff I’ve bookmarked. I used to just share them via Pocket, which get fed into the links list on this blog, but the problem with that approach was that I don’t get to comment on each link about why I shared or bookmarked it. Writing them into a blog post gives me a chance to highlight them too. I’ve seen some other blogs where they have something like a weekly list of recent links, let’s see if that works out for me.
All entries tagged Links.
You can subscribe to an RSS feed of this list.

I usually log links to interesting articles that I read over on Pocket, which get fed into the links list on this blog, but that page only shows the most recent ones, so I thought I’d highlight some in a post as well. Recent science news: scientists have managed to image the event horizon of a black hole! Here’s a nice article about why that’s a big deal and some interesting science stuff behind it.

I came across a website that provided an online Speed Reading Test. Most people I know generally know me to be a fast reader so I decided to take the test. My results: 472 words per minute screen reading, at 82% comprehension, which the website says classifies me as a “good reader”. Apparently the best readers can read at 700wpm at 85% comprehension, sounds tough =/ Try the quiz and post your results here.

I don’t really read a lot of webcomics. Well, at least not as many as some people. I generally prefer the ones with feeds. Here are the ones I follow that don’t have feeds. That is, I like them well enough to bother hitting their website to check for new comics. Sinfest – awesome. It’s like a mature Calvin and Hobbes. Only with a talking pig instead of a tiger. And ninjas.

Today’s Dilbert Comic amuses me because I didn’t think the term “guest chair” existed outside of our office.

Google Trends: world domination, world peace People need to take world domination more seriously. I’d guess that at most 10% of the population have even seriously considered world domination!

Interesting read: There’s this spouse of an EA developer who’s taking it to EA’s supposedly unfair labor practices on livejournal. Cool thing: A chess program that shows you the computer’s train of thought! Interesting English Trivia – yes it’s geeky 😀 Tech news: Winamp is dead, long live Winamp! I actually like Winamp, especially version 5. There are quite a number of things I’d like to change with it, but it’s a lot better than WMP.

Something random found today: Some guy’s gallery of comic-book (and other genre) characters as lego people And, for those three people who haven’t seen this before: The Fight Crime! The guy who made the above javascript thingy (website: black-ink.org) had a link to some sort of online ‘zine about comics. I don’t follow comics much anymore, but apparently, Peter David is writing something X-Factor again. And according to a friend of mine, he’s also writing Hulk again!

It’s been a while, I got a lot to say, some personal things, some random stuff from the internet. Let’s start with the easy stuff, random linkage: First up, the Kingdom of Loathing, it’s an online Stickman RPG! It’s MMO (well, not really massive), it’s wacky, and you can be a pastamancer! It currently amuses me… and I hate waiting to get more turns! My account there is “hungry roy” It’s Quentin Tarantino’s diary!

Found this on kuro5hin: it’s a fairly well-written science fiction piece. Link
