  • I’m going to try to log out of Facebook and Twitter for the rest of the month. Not because of Lent or anything, but because frankly I can’t trust any of you not to spoil Game of Thrones or Avengers Endgame for me! Lol. (And frankly, we all need to be doing less social media anyway.) If you wanna know what’s happening with me, I still post regularly on the blog over at https://roytang.net/ and you can still contact me via Messenger/Viber.

  • So, Manila Water (miss ko na mag bidet and shower). Catching up with all the “explanations” given out so far, the thing that makes the least sense for me is this: Supposedly MW is allocated 1600mld from Angat Dam, which is insufficient because the demand is at 1750mld. That’s around a 9.375% deficit. Given that, why would it be necessary for a large number of areas (I’m not sure if there are even unaffected MW service areas) to have service interruptions for majority of the hours of the day? (Over here, I think we get like very weak water pressure a couple of hours a day and that’s it). Obviously they can’t just cut 9.375% of the hours, they need to add some buffer, that’s fine. And households would of course compensate for reduced hours by consuming more during the time they do have water. But why so extreme, so immediately? At worst I would have expected that they cut service hours by at most 50% (so households have water during half the day), then if that’s not enough come out with an advisory saying “okay, we’re still consuming too much water, we need to cut more hours”. As it is, their announced service interruption hours are highly inaccurate, so it seems they can’t even predict what’s going to happen with their service. Conspiracy theories aside, I prefer to attribute all of the issues to sheer incompetence first, but is there something I’m missing here, some kind of engineering reason or what, for the service interruptions to be so widespread and unpredictable?

Dec 2018

  • Christmas Steam giveaway! Somehow yet again I’ve accumulated a bunch of extra keys for Steam games, so I’ll give some away this Christmas. Here are some games I’m giving out:

    Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition

    Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director’s Cut

Shadowrun: Hong Kong - Extended Edition

    Sniper Elite

    Sniper Elite V2

    Resident Evil Revelations

    World of Goo

    Elders Scrolls Morrowind

Edit: Adding some other keys I found, but I’m not sure these are still valid (we’ll find out when someone asks for them!)

    Crusader Kings II

    Legend of Grimrock

If you’d like one of these, please add me on Steam (my account name is “hungryroy”), comment below with your Steam account and the game(s) you want. The Steam account is required. If you list multiple games, you’ll still only receive one if you win. If multiple people want a particular game, one will be chosen randomly or at my discretion. (There is no DTI representative.). Recipients will be chosen on Saturday the 29th.

I don’t ask for anything in return, but if you have any extra Steam trading cards you’re not using, I wouldn’t mind if you sent me some.

    Merry Christmas!

  • Sometimes in my head, I like to give the president the benefit of the doubt, that maybe he isn’t aware of killings being perpetrated in his name or that he has no idea his policies lead to such violence or maybe subordinates are doing it without his knowledge or maybe it’s just rogue cops or whatever. I can’t read his mind, so I understand there’s a whole spectrum of possibilities as to what the truth is. Then he opens his mouth to speak and it is easy to see which end of that spectrum is far more likely.

  • Daredevil Season 3 spoiler-free review

    • This season is amazing. I was planning on watching the season over a period of 3-4 days. Instead I ended up finishing it all in one day, ending at 3 in the morning. The pacing was tight and there was no good place to stop as you always wanted to know what happens next
    • The entire cast gave great performances
    • Wilson Fisk comes out strong to carry the season, looming over Hell’s Kitchen and presenting a sinister, cunning, and apparently unstoppable criminal mastermind
    • Wilson Bethel’s Ben Poindexter is seemingly unbeatable in combat and gives us some great fight scenes and a fantastic performance
    • Ugh, I wish I could write spoilers lol
    • I used to consider Daredevil S1 to be the best of the Marvel/Netflix seasons so far; I think I have to crown a new champion
  • VENOM spoiler-free review:

    • I wasn’t sure if I would watch this, given the poor critical response, but it’s an ok movie overall, fun to watch but nothing to write home about (though I wouldnt spend extra for Imax). I would say comparable with Thor: Dark World or Iron Man 2
    • the first 15 mins or so felt draggy, but after that things happen quickly
    • overall plot slightly predictable, and not too long, very straightforward
    • a tiny bit of humor thrown in, not enough to make it feel like an MCU movie
    • not sure if there’s something with the sound editing or some of the actors weren’t delivering their lines properly, but I had trouble with understanding the lines in some scenes
    • the Venom symbiote seems to have some extra powers here (as compared to the comics)
    • Tom Hardy does a good job here, I feel like he was having fun during this movie
    • There is a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene
    • Would Mama like it? Hard no.
  • Dear Facebook, I’m from Quezon City (best city), events in Ortigas or Makati are not “near me”. One would think with all the private data you’re gathering you would already know this

  • Anyone tried Audible? I’m thinking of turning to audiobooks so I could “read” more books, but for it to be useful, I’d have to be able to listen to the books while I’m coding or otherwise working. IDK if this is a terrible idea lol

  • Day 10 of 10 posters of my favorite movies!

I enjoyed this meme, despite finding it difficult at first to come up with a list of 10. I was tempted to talk about each movie in turn, but the original meme said to post without explanation. Perhaps when I am not busy I will instead make a blog post about it.
